The Voluntary Health Association of Tripura (VHAT), a partner non-governmental organization of Prevent It Project hosted an event, ‘Orientation on Antibiotic Resistance’ on 25th March 2022 at Tripura University. The audience was approximately 40 in number, comprising of students from Masters in Rural Development. The overall idea was to make the students learn the concept and empower them with the appropriate knowledge to educate the community at the grassroots level.
The researchers- Dr. Kiranjeet Kaur, Dr. Dona Boban, Dr. Rakshitha K., Ms. Riya Joshi and Mr. Jyoti Prakash- from the Indian partner universities delivered the session, whereas the project manager, Ms. Varnika Sharma, assisted in managing the event. The event started with the keynote speaker, Dr. Kiranjeet Kaur, who made students understand what actually is antibiotic resistance (ABR) and the main theme of the Prevent It project.
The terms such as health, disease, and basics of antimicrobials were introduced. Initially, the causes, spread and impact of ABR were explained, followed by the importance of its prevention. The speakers took the help of various teaching methods, such as presentations, questions and answers, group discussions, games, etc. to keep the workshop understandable and imbibe the knowledge in the minds of the youth.
At the last, the researchers conducted and moderated the focus group discussions, where the students shared their ideas and presented their valuable input to prevent the future pandemic. This forum gave students a voice to put forth their understanding of the concept, and it was well taken. At the last, Mr. Muni Mohan (Secretary, Rural Institute for People’s Enlightenment) delivered the concluding remarks for the session.
