The Rural Institute for People’s Enlightenment (RIPE), a partner non-governmental organization (NGO) of Prevent It Project hosted an awareness event titled, ‘Time to fight against ABR: Red Alert” on 29th March 2022 at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The target audience was students from Bachelors of computer science, Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), supervisors, Auxiliary nurse midwives, NGO staffs and were approximately 80 in number. The main aim of the talk was to create awareness about antibiotic resistance (ABR), and empower the community with various preventive strategies at the local/community level. This can also help build community leaders and different types of people working at the common end goal.
The session began with the introduction of the Prevent IT project, and its scope in combating ABR. Dr. Dona Boban lead the session and explained the basics of health, disease, microbes. The further sessions were taken care of by other researchers- Dr. Kiranjeet Kaur, Dr. Rakshitha K., Ms. Riya Joshi and Mr. Jyoti Prakash, who included topics such as basics of ABR, causes, impact and preventive strategies. Ms. Varnika, the project manager, took the pre and post-assessment of participants and managed the flow of the session.
Lastly, a group activity was conducted and the participants presented their ABR preventive ideas as per the themes provided to them, such as ‘what would they do if they were a student, healthcare professional, doctor, or a Health minister. The concluding remarks were given by RIPE NGO staff members.
