PREVENT IT Pre Conference at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar, India

Kalinga School of Public Health (KSPH), Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Deemed to be University, Bhubaneshwar organized the Pre-Conference teaching activities for the international conference titled “One World One Health” from 28th November to 3rd December, 2022. A total of 16 Ph.D. scholars participated in this pre-conference teaching activities, among them nine were associated to the European Universities (University of Milan, Italy; Maastricht University, Netherlands; University of Portugal, Portugal) and seven to the Indian universities (Chitkara University, Punjab; KIIT DU, Bhubaneswar; Manipal Academy of Higher Studies, Manipal; Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi and Symbiosis International University, Pune).

The seven-day teaching activities were inaugurated on 28 November 2022 by Prof. Dr. Sudhir Kumar Satpathy, Director, KSPH with a welcome address in presence of Prof. Niyati Das, Principal, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences. The introductory session of the event was steer headed by Assoc. Prof and PREVENT IT project Coordinator at KIIT- Dr. Himanshu Sekhar Pradhan.

The Ph.D. scholars taught the participants (consisting of students from Master of Public Health, Master of Hospital Administration, and Nursing) the contemporary issues in public health and nursing sciences. Parallel sessions were conducted at the college of nursing sciences and school of public health by European and Indian Ph.D. scholars. The scholars visited the KIIT Technology Business Incubator, molecular and central laboratory of Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences, and had a campus tour of KIIT and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences.

The visiting scholars also got an opportunity to meet and discuss with the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of KIIT, Prof. Sasmita Samanta. They shared their experience and happiness about the deliberation of the teaching activities and hospitality offered by the KIIT. The pre-conference event was fruitful as there was an exchange of scientific and theoretical knowledge among scholars and also it was beneficial for students who took part. Some of the topics that were dealt in the teaching activities by scholars were AMR in clinical/hospital settings, nosocomial infections, innovations, and Antibiotic Resistance (ABR) stewardship. They also discussed ABR transfer from hospital to community settings, drug-resistant Tuberculosis, and its social factors. After recognizing these problems, the way out concluded is ‘One Health’, which was given main priority, and the issue of ABR was discussed through the One Health lens. 

After the pre-conference event, the scholars participated in the international conference on “One World, One Health” from 6 – 7 December 2022 organized by the Chitkara University, Punjab under the framework of PREVENT IT Project.
