The emergence of antibiotic resistance (ABR) is on peak globally. There are various factors contributing to the increasing incidence of ABR such as inappropriate use of antibiotics in animals, wrong prescription of drugs, incomplete course of drugs etc. All these factors are bringing about the changes at molecular level of bacteria which are passed on same or other bacteria too through horizontal gene transfer. Thus there is urgent need to combat this adverse situation through newer therapeutic approaches. These include pharmacokinetics, nanoparticles, antimicrobial peptides from other sources such as plants. In this article, authors have attempted to enlist the various factors responsible for ABR and providing a detailed description about the recent reserach approaches implied to combat ABR.
