The Rural Institute of Peoples Enlightenment (RIPE, Tirupathi), a partner non-governmental organization of Prevent It Project hosted a 5-days workshop on “Combat Antibiotic Resistance – Need of the hour”. The 2 days event happened at Sri Sai Ram Rytu MACS Conference Hall, Yallakivaripalli, Chittoor from 15th and 16th Oct, 2022 and 3 days event took place at DRDA Conference Hall, near youth Hostel, Tirupati from Oct 17th to Oct 19th. The target audience was Farmer Producer Organization (FPOs) Members and Self Help Groups (SHGs).
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Muni Mohan, CEO who gave the brief overview of the event and project ‘Risk management and prevention of Antibiotics Resistance (ABR)’. The impact of human behaviour was explained in details with respect to ABR. K.V. Dinesh Babu, APD, Mr. K. Balakrishnamurthy, Secretary and Mr. Bodeshavalli, Scientist, Piler discussed the impact of ABR not only on humans, animals, plants but also on the environment. Further, Mr. Rajesh Reddy, Medical Officer, shared his learnings on how to reduce the risk of ABR and manage the situation. The last session focussed on the role of FPOs and SHGs with special focus on how they can contribute in reducing the incidence of ABR. It was highlighted that if we do not take necessary steps today, the problem of ABR will result in 10 million deaths by the year 2050. This session was delivered by Mr. V.S.Naidu and M. Narasimhula Chetty, K.Kothapeta. The valedictory session was taken care by Ms. Kalavathi and Mrs. Hemalath with their encouraging words.
